Why the day starts with twenty minutes of reading
Every class, every day, straight after assembly: a book of the child’s own choosing, and no questions afterwards.
For twenty minutes after assembly, every student and every teacher in the school reads a book of their own choosing. There are no worksheets and no questions afterwards.
In the three years since we started, library borrowing has doubled and the reading scores of our class V students in the annual assessment have risen every year.
